Coastal Chill Hair Care: Keeping Your Hair Happy in November

As we slide deeper into November, the Costa del Sol gets that little coastal chill, the kind where the evenings are cooler, the sea breeze picks up, and your hair starts to feel it. Even though we don’t exactly get frosty mornings here in La Cala de Mijas, the change in air can still play tricks on our hair.

The salty sea breeze effect If you live near the beach, you’ll know the feeling, salty air gives your hair that soft, tousled texture we all secretly love, but it can also draw out moisture. This means your lovely glossy strands might start feeling a little dry or rough around the edges. I always recommend using a deep conditioning treatment once a week and sealing your ends with a light oil. It keeps that natural wave we love here on the coast but without the straw-like texture.

Switching to cooler weather care In summer, we all reach for lighter products, but as the weather cools, your hair might need something more nourishing. Swap out your summer shampoo for a more hydrating one, and don’t be afraid of rich masks or leave-ins. They won’t weigh your hair down if you apply them correctly, just focus on the mid-lengths and ends.

The extension factor If you’re wearing extensions, the coastal air can make them tangle more easily, especially when it’s breezy. Always brush gently from the bottom up and tie your hair loosely when you’re out in the wind. A silk scrunchie or soft plait works wonders to keep everything neat and smooth.

My top tip for the month Add a weekly scalp massage into your routine. It boosts circulation, encourages growth, and feels amazing after a long day. November is all about slowing down and giving your hair some extra love.
