The foundations
Extension hair does not receive natural oils from the scalp in the same way as your own lengths. Gentle handling, correct products and timely maintenance make the greatest difference to how it looks and feels between visits.
Detangle before washing, then keep your head upright and massage the scalp gently rather than rubbing or twisting the lengths. Keep conditioner and oil away from bonds, tapes and rings; apply them only through the mid-lengths and ends. Squeeze out water and pat dry — never wrap wet extensions tightly in a towel.
Use an extension-safe brush. Once the hair is dry, support the bonds with one hand and work from the ends upwards in small sections. Separate the roots and attachment points regularly. Dry the root area and bonds thoroughly on a comfortable heat before styling the lengths.
Extensions can be curled, straightened and blow-dried, but repeated high heat shortens their life. Always use heat protection and keep hot tools away from bonds, tapes and rings. Apply lightweight finishing oil only to the ends.
Never go to bed with wet or damp extension hair. Brush it gently, make sure the attachment area is fully dry, then secure the lengths in a loose braid or low ponytail to prevent tangling and matting overnight.
Salt, chlorine, UV and heat can dry extension hair and alter lighter shades. Tie hair up before swimming where possible, keep it away from sunscreen oils, and rinse it with fresh water immediately afterwards. Do not leave wet extensions bundled up. Ask us before using purple shampoo, as porous lengths can take pigment unevenly.
Do not bleach, dye or chemically alter extensions at home. Extension hair has already been processed, so the outcome can be unpredictable and its condition can change quickly. Any colour adjustment should be assessed and carried out professionally.
Maintenance timing depends on your method and natural growth, commonly within a four-to-twelve-week window. Attend the schedule agreed at fitting so attachment points do not place unnecessary stress on your own hair. Existing hair may be reused at a refit when its condition allows. Removal must always be done in the salon, never at home.
