Going Scandinavian Blonde Without Wrecking Your Hair
Pale blonde is achievable on most hair. Pale blonde in one appointment, on hair that has been coloured for years, usually is not. Here is how it is done properly.

I want to talk about the thing that separates a beautiful Scandinavian blonde from a hair disaster, because it is not the toner and it is not the brand of lightener. It is patience.
Every colourist on this coast can make hair light. The skill is making hair light while it stays strong enough to shine, hold a tone and grow.
Why lightening damages hair
Lightener works by opening the cuticle and dissolving your natural pigment. In doing that it also breaks some of the disulphide bonds that give your hair its strength and elasticity.
Break a few and the hair copes. Break too many in one sitting and you get hair that feels gummy when wet, snaps when brushed and refuses to hold any tone at all. That is over processing, and it cannot be reversed. It can only be cut off.
How I avoid it
A genuinely honest consultation. I need your full colour history. Box dye from three years ago, henna, a home bleach kit, a holiday hair wrap, all of it. Old colour sitting in the hair is the single biggest cause of unpredictable lifting, and I would rather know than discover it halfway through.
Strand testing. On hair with an unclear history, I test a hidden section first. It takes fifteen minutes and it tells me exactly how your hair will behave.
Lifting in stages. For most clients going from dark or long coloured hair to Scandinavian blonde, this is two or three appointments across a few months. Each session gets us closer without pushing the hair past what it can handle. Anyone who promises the whole journey in one sitting is gambling with your hair.
Bond builders in the mix. Bond protection goes into the lightener itself, not just applied afterwards as an afterthought. It rebuilds bonds as we break them.
Root to end awareness. Your roots lift faster than your ends because of the heat from your scalp. Ends that have been lifted before need far gentler treatment than virgin hair. Applying the same product at the same strength everywhere is how you get banding and breakage.
What the journey usually looks like
Session one gets you to a warm, honeyed blonde with the ends lifted and a soft root. It looks lovely on its own, and plenty of clients happily stop here.
Session two, six to eight weeks later, refines the lift and cleans the tone considerably cooler.
Session three, if needed, takes you to that pale Nordic finish.
In between, I will want to see you for bond treatments. Hair that is being lifted needs feeding.
Your part in it
- Weekly bond or protein treatment at home, without fail
- Sulphate free shampoo
- Turn the heat down on your styling tools, and always use a protector
- Get the ends trimmed regularly. Split ends travel upwards
- Rinse before the sea and the pool
- Tell me the truth if you have used anything on it at home
When I will say no
Sometimes I will look at hair and tell a client that we cannot go pale blonde yet. That is not me being awkward. It is me refusing to hand you hair that snaps off in the shower.
In those cases we build a plan. Repair treatments, a strengthening course, a good cut, and we revisit in a few months. Hair that is looked after gets there. Hair that is rushed does not.
Come and start the conversation
If you are in Mijas Costa, La Cala or Riviera del Sol and Scandinavian blonde is what you want, book a consultation. Bring photographs, bring your hair history and be honest with me.
I will tell you exactly what is possible, how many appointments it will take and what it will cost. And then we will do it properly.
