Let’s talk about something every woman has faced at least once during the colder months, hat hair. You know that moment when you finally pull off your beanie or beret, glance in the mirror, and realise your hair has completely given up on you? Yes, we’ve all been there.

Now that we’re well into November and those breezy La Cala de Mijas mornings are getting cooler, a hat is essential for warmth and style. But how do we keep our hair looking gorgeous underneath? Let’s settle the great hat hair debate once and for all.

The Flat Hair Problem

The biggest hat hair offender is flattened roots. When your hair gets pressed under a hat, it loses its natural lift. To fix this, start with a lightweight volumizing mousse or spray before drying your hair. Focus on the roots, and flip your head upside down for extra bounce. When you pop your hat off later, give your roots a little fluff with your fingers and voilà, instant volume revival.

The Static Situation

If your hat is leaving you looking like you’ve just rubbed a balloon on your head, you’re not alone. Static happens when your hair gets too dry and full of friction. The solution? A small dab of leave in conditioner or serum before you put your hat on. It helps calm the flyaways and keeps your hair smooth and silky.

Hat Hair That Actually Works

Not all hat hair is bad hair. A sleek low ponytail, braid, or soft waves can look effortlessly chic under a hat. If you are heading out and want to look polished, try a low side braid or tuck your hair loosely behind your ears before putting on your hat. When you take it off, it’ll fall beautifully back into place.

Hats can make your scalp feel a little warm and oily, so make sure to keep your hair clean and fresh. A touch of dry shampoo can give your roots some life between washes and help absorb any excess oil.
